A canoe trip on the Green River Sept 29 to Oct 13 2003

We arrive at Tex's Riverways before 8:00 AM, where our gear is loaded on their trailer and van. Our launch point is just down stream from Green River, UT at a place called Crystal Geyser. Here we unload our gear from the van and trailer load the canoes for the 120 mile trip to Spanish bottom (about 4 miles down stream from the confluence of the Green and Colorado rivers). We then travel down stream about 7.5 miles to McCarty Bottom and stop to take some photos of some petroglyphs. Day one we travel from Mile 115.5 to about mile 105, (miles on the Green River are from the confluence)  where we camp on an Island. On day two we travel from mile 105 to mile 86,and camp on the right  shore. No pictures were taken on this day because of battery problems. Day three we travel from mile 86 to mile 78, where we again camp on the left shore. That night we have a thunder storm with some rain off and on all night. It is raining lightly in the morning so we dress accordingly and canoe about 100 yards to the River Registry. We leave there and travel to about 2 miles and stop to see an inscription made by Denis Julien the 16th May 1836. We then go about 4 more miles down stream to the "Saddle" at Bow Knot Bend. Here we hike up to the saddle and take some pictures. We can view parts of the river that are about 8 river miles apart, but only about 100 yards as the crow flies. Our camp that night is on the back side of  Bowknot. We traveled from mile 78 to mile 66 today. Day five we travel from mile 66 to mile50. We stop at Hell Roaring Canyon and walk up the wash a short distance to see another D.Julien inscription. We then proceed to our camp just below mineral canyon. Day 6 we travel from mile 50 to mile 41, with a side trip up Horsethief Canyon on foot. Our camp this night is at Fort Bottom, where we hike up on a bluff to see the ruin. The next day we go from mile 41 to mile31, which puts at Anderson Bottom. We camp here for 3 nights and do a lot of hiking and relaxing. we are here so long, that there 2 pages of pictures: part-1 & part-2. After two lay-over days at Anderson Bottom, we head for Turks head. We end up camping at the mouth of Dead Horse Canyon, which is on the down stream end of Turks Head. We hike in Dead Horse that day and hike over to Turks Head the next day. On day 12 we leave the Turks Head area (mile19.7) and travel to mile 2.5 which is our last camp on the green. On day 13 we travel to confluence and down the Colorado to Spanish Bottom (mile 213). We arrive early enough to do the hike up to the Doll house. The next day we cross the river and hike up Lower Red Lake Canyon and on to the overlook of the confluence (7 miles one way). This takes all day. Day 15 we get ready for Tex's jet boat to pick us up for trip backup the Colorado to Potash, and from there back to Moab by bus.
